What to Expect During an Intervention
An intervention gathers family and friends together to help your loved one understand their addiction. It’s designed to motivate an individual to seek help for alcohol or substance dependency, eating, gambling, cutting, or other addictive disorders.
An intervention typically takes between 1 and 3 hours. When the patient arrives, our intervention specialist will introduce themself and explain the purpose of the intervention. Then, the participants will take turns reading their pre-written letters to their loved one.
These letters are designed to show the patient that they are loved and cared for, but that their behavior has become destructive and unmanageable.
When everyone is done reading their letter, the interventionist will ask the patient if they’re willing to seek treatment. If the answer is yes, the interventionist may provide direct transportation to the agreed-upon treatment center.
